Delete My Data
Deleting Your Nexus Account and Data
You can delete your Nexus account yourself, at any time, from inside the app. You do not need to ask us and you do not need a reason.
In The App
Open Nexus, then Settings, then Close Account. Your account and your data are deleted straight away. There is no waiting period and nothing is kept “pending deletion”.
If You No Longer Have The App
If you have uninstalled Nexus or cannot sign in, Contact Us and choose Privacy from the department list. Tell us the email address you used for your account. We will verify that it is yours and delete it within 30 days, and in most cases within a few working days.
What Is Deleted Immediately
When you close your account, Nexus deletes:
• your account and your sign-in
• your name, email address and profile
• the emergency contacts you entered
• every alert you have raised
• the location trail recorded during those alerts
• any Silent Witness or Safe Walk audio recordings
• the names and phone numbers of anyone you asked to watch you walk home
• your access to any organisation you were a member of
What Is Deleted In 30 Days
Nothing Nexus holds about an incident lasts longer than 30 days, whether or not you close your account. Alerts, location trails and audio recordings are deleted automatically after 30 days in the ordinary course of things. Closing your account simply does it now instead of waiting.
What We Keep, And Why
Two things are not deleted when you close your account. Both are records about other people, not only about you.
Missing person reports. If you reported someone missing, that report is about them. It may form part of a live police investigation and other people may have responded to it with sightings. We cannot remove it on the word of the reporter alone. If you need a missing person report taken down, Contact Us and tell us why.
School safeguarding records. Where a school uses Nexus, records of safeguarding concerns belong to the school and are held under its own legal duties, which run for years. They are not ours to delete. Contact the school
We also keep basic records of billing and of legal requests where the law requires us to.
Children's Accounts
If a child's Nexus account was set up by you — as a parent or carer — you can remove it from My Family on your own account. If it was set up by a school, contact the school.
Your Other Rights
Deleting your account is one of several rights you have under UK GDPR. You can also ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or object to how we use it. See our Privacy Policy, or Contact Us and choose Privacy.
If you are not happy with how we handle your request you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk
