GENERAL QUESTIONS
WHAT IS NEXUS?
Nexus is a community-powered safety network that connects people, venues, and emergency services through a free mobile app and web-based operator console. It works offline using Bluetooth mesh technology — so even when the signal drops, Nexus doesn't.
WHICH PHONES DOES NEXUS WORK ON?
Nexus is available on iOS and Android. It works on any modern smartphone.
IS MY DATA SAFE?
Absolutely. We do not track you, we do not sell your data, and we do not share your personal information with third parties. Your location is only shared during an active SOS event and only with the people you choose. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LOUD SOS & SILENT SOS?
Loud SOS activates a siren and strobe light on your phone and broadcasts your location across the mesh network. Silent SOS sends the same location alert quietly — no sound, no light — ideal for situations where drawing attention could put you at greater risk.
WHAT IS THE HOTEL EMERGENCY CONTACT FEATURE?
If you are travelling alone, you can add your hotel as a temporary emergency contact for the duration of your stay. If you trigger an SOS, the hotel is notified alongside your other trusted contacts.
IS NEXUS REALLY FREE?
Yes. Nexus Tier 1 — the mobile app — is completely free for everyone, always. There are no hidden charges and no subscriptions for core safety features. Rapid Alert — our missing persons broadcast system — is available as an optional add-on. Get in touch to find out more.
DOES NEXUS WORK WITHOUT INTERNET?
Yes. Nexus uses Bluetooth mesh technology — meaning your device communicates with other nearby Nexus devices even without a mobile signal or Wi-Fi connection. In remote areas, festivals, or during network outages, the mesh keeps working.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I PRESS SOS?
Pressing SOS immediately alerts your trusted contacts with your live location, activates the Nexus mesh network so nearby devices can detect your signal, and — if you are connected to a Tier 2 venue or organisation — alerts their command centre simultaneously. You can choose a Loud SOS (siren and strobe) or Silent SOS (no sound, discreet alert).
WHAT IS RAPID ALERT?
Rapid Alert is our missing persons broadcast system. When someone is reported missing, a single submission sends an alert simultaneously across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, X, and the Nexus network — reaching thousands of people in your area instantly.
FOR VENUES & ORGANISATIONS — TIER 2
WHAT IS TIER 2?
Nexus Tier 2 is a web-based operator console for venues, schools, hospitals, hotels, and organisations. It gives your team a real-time command centre for safety incidents — including live incident management, missing person coordination, staff alerts, authority connections, and AI-powered situational awareness.
DO I NEED SPECIAL HARDWARE OR EQUIPMENT?
No. Nexus Tier 2 runs entirely through a web browser. No equipment, no installation, no IT team required. If you have a laptop or desktop and an internet connection, you are ready to go.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I TRIGGER AN INCIDENT?
The moment you activate an incident — Active Shooter, Lockdown, Fire, Medical, Evacuation — Nexus fires simultaneously across your entire operation. Your staff receive an instant WhatsApp notification. Your connected authorities are alerted. The AI coordinator guide activates with prioritised actions. A live incident chat opens. Your venue is pinned on a live map. Everything happens in seconds, automatically.
CAN I UPLOAD MY FLOOR PLANS?
Yes. You can upload floor plans for any building or floor level directly into the console. These are available to your team during an incident.
HOW MUCH DOES TIER 2 COST?
Tier 2 pricing is based on the size and needs of your organisation. There are no setup fees and no hardware costs. Get in touch and we'll find the right plan for you.
HOW DO I CONNECT MY VENUE TO LOCAL AUTHORITIES?
Through the Connect to Authorities section of the console. You can connect directly to your nearest Police Authority, Fire & Rescue, and Medical services who are signed up to the Nexus network. Once connected, any incident you trigger automatically routes an alert to them instantly. Get in touch to find out which authorities are active in your area.
WHAT IF MY STAFF DON'T HAVE THE NEXUS APP?
No problem. Staff receive emergency alerts via WhatsApp — no app required to receive notifications. However, we strongly recommend all staff download the free Nexus app to get the full benefit during an incident, including live location sharing and mesh connectivity.
CAN I BROADCAST A MESSAGE TO ALL MY STAFF AT ONCE?
Yes. The Staff Broadcast System allows you to send an instant SMS to every active staff member in your organisation simultaneously. Pre-built templates for Active Shooter, Lockdown, Evacuation, Medical, and Stand Down are included.
FOR SEARCH & RESCUE TEAMS — MISSING PERSON CONSOLE
IS THE MISSING PERSON COMMAND CONSOLE FREE FOR SAR TEAMS?
Yes. We offer free permanent Tier 2 access to verified search and rescue coordinators and missing persons organisations. Contact us to find out more.
HOW DO VOLUNTEERS JOIN A SEARCH?
Volunteers receive an instant WhatsApp message when the coordinator clicks Mobilise. The message includes the missing person's details and a direct link to join the search via the Nexus app.
WHAT IS TRAIL INTELLIGENCE?
If the missing person has the Nexus app and has triggered an SOS, their live GPS signal can be linked directly into the console. Trail Intelligence then analyses their movement — direction, speed, distance travelled, last known ping — and provides AI-powered recommendations on where they are likely heading.
WHAT IS THE GRID SYSTEM?
The search area is overlaid with a precision grid of lettered rows and numbered columns directly on the live map. Coordinators assign grid zones to search teams and broadcast assignments directly into the incident chat — ensuring complete coverage with no overlap and no gaps.
HOW DOES THE MISSING COMMAND CONSOLE WORK?
When a missing person alert is received, the coordinator opens the console, starts an incident, and the platform activates immediately. Volunteers in the area are identified with distances and ETAs. A live incident chat opens. An AI coordinator guide fires with tactical search recommendations specific to that person and location. The search area can be divided into a precision grid and assigned to teams via the chat.
HOW ARE SPECIALISTS REQUESTED?
Coordinators can search for specialists by skill — dog handler, first responder, medic, water rescue — and send a direct WhatsApp invite to the nearest available specialist. The specialist receives full details and joins with one tap.
IS VOLUNTEER INFORMATION SHARED WITH MISSING PERSON'S FAMILY?
No. All volunteer and specialist responses are completely anonymous to the missing person's family. Only the coordinator can see who has joined the search.
DOES NEXUS INTEGRATE WITH EXISTING SAR SYSTEMS?
Nexus is designed to work alongside your existing processes, not replace them. It does not require any integration with existing systems to get started.
